He was born and raised on the family farm near Kindred ND, baptized and confirmed at Gol Lutheran Church and graduated from Kindred High School. As a teenager he became interested in amateur radio and pursued this interest into broadcasting. He began his career in Fergus Falls at KGDE Radio. It was there that he met Arlene Bredeson, whom he married on August 26, 1945. They began their life together in Jamestown, where Lloyd worked at KSJB Radio. Lloyd and his colleagues were pioneers in development of television in North Dakota, with the start up of KXJB TV. He was chief engineer for the “world’s tallest tower” north of Valley City. In 1965, when the station moved the site of the transmitter tower to Galesburg ND, the family moved to Fargo. He later became a vice president in charge of engineering at KXJB. He retired in 1985. He then worked part time for KCCM-Minnesota Public Radio in Moorhead. Lloyd and Arlene celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary in August.
