Sylvia K. (Eid) Gohdes, 86, Mapleton N.D., passed away Monday, April 16, 2012 at Rosewood on Broadway, Fargo.

Sylvia was born June 26, 1925 in rural Gary, MN to Anton and Lena (Duckstad) Eid. She was baptized and confirmed at Sundahl Lutheran Church. Sylvia attended Golden Willow Country School in rural Gary, MN, graduating from Gary High School in 1943. She went on to attend Fargo Business College in Fargo and worked for Fargo Investment Company.

She married Alvin A. Gohdes on September 7, 1947 in Sundahl Lutheran Church. They began their life together in rural Mapleton. Together, they built a new farmstead, pursuing a life-long commitment to dairy and grain farming, and raising a family. Alvin and Sylvia lived on the family farm for over 60 years. Alvin passed away in 2006. In 2010, Sylvia moved to Sheyenne Crossing in West Fargo due to health concerns.

Sylvia enjoyed baking pies and bread, embroidering, crocheting, quilting, and gardening. Much of what she made, she gave to family, friends and charities. One of her passions was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchild.

She was a faithful member of the Canaan Moravian Church, rural Davenport N.D. Monthly Women's Fellowship meetings and activities in the church were of great importance to her. Her Mapleton Community Homemaker's Club added another positive social aspect to Sylvia's life.

Sylvia is survived by her children; Keith (Mary) Gohdes, Mapleton N.D., Kathleen "Ki" Gohdes, Pelican Rapids M.N., Melanie (Robert) Gohdes Fransen, Eden Prairie M.N., Rev. Stephen (Heidi) Gohdes, Calgary, Alberta, Canada, brother; Donald Eid, Gary M.N., sisters; Luella Digerness, Moorhead M.N., Diana Olson, Wadena M.N., grandchildren; Matthew (Rachelle) Fransen, Janessa (Tim) Smith, Erin Fransen, Brianna Gohdes, Alyssa (Lucas) Palczewski, Daniel (Alicia) Gohdes, Kari Gohdes, one great-granddaughter, Sayler Sylvia Jaye Smith; and one step great-grandchild, Logan Smith.
